Hmm, this makes me wonder, do they sell turkey as well in Belize? How abundant is the supply?

Well you have imported US frozen turkeys and Belize birds on the hoof. Our first Thanksgiving we bought a bird on the hoof and served that. Lets say it was tough as hell and the breast meat is small as they run wild for the most part not chemically induced US birds! The next year we bought our Belize bird a few months early and fed it well and caged it. Much better!

With the US imported turkeys it is often case of buy it when you see it if you have the freezer space to keep it.
Some years( well most really) there are shortages. for Thanksgiving/ Christmas holiday season.
Belizeans are not great Turkey eaters so businesses will only import what they estimate they can sell. If they get that wrong they run out well before the holiday season, then they reorder more but these do not get in untill the new year, then they have to mark down these in price. Having such a small population means the importers can rarely get the best prices by buying in huge bulk orders. When the item is mainly wanted for the tourists/expats buyers they definetly can't get those bulk prices. Thats why Imports cost so much more in Belize.
We came to the states for our last adventure before we die but as we didn't die yet, there is time for another adventure this time back to Belize.

Too late to respond, but I just happened to see this and recall seeing in the Belize Ag Report last year that Belize produces about half a million turkeys in an average year. Not many compared to the 90 million chickens raised but more than I would have thought. Assume most if not all of the turkeys are raised by Mennonites.

I beg to differ. Belizeans love turkey and have often enough for lunch. All imports carry duty, no matter who its imported for. I have only had good local birds, albeit smaller than imported, but without the hormone diet
