Thanks for your input. I do want to continue my architectural practice in Belize so I suppose residency is the way to go, although I do like the "no fees and duty" bit with the QRP bit.

I google earthed Hopkins. So, you are on the beach? How did Harvey treat you?

Hopkins is a 6 mile long coastal village. We waved at Harvey as he went by many miles off shore. Hopkins has only had a very mild cat 1 hurricane in many years. It's amazing how the reef protects us.

We had some friends south of Hopkins with a house right on the beach. I would give my right leg to be there!

The reef protects Belize from large waves by breaking them, I would like to know how it protects Belize from hurricanes?

Reefs will not protect from a Cat 3, 4 or 5 hurricane.
The capital that was Belize City was moved to Belmopan for a good reason.
Think of the Florida Cayes as a big reef that projects above sea level. It's not going to slow down the wind or surge.
Caye Caulker split also defines that power.

QRP applications require a full medical exam for each immigrant. Where must the exam be done and in what time frame? (An exam done in BZ would be less expensive than one done in the U.S. or Canada.)

Was asking JS who thinks it does.
Caye Caulker split was man-made.
It got enlarged by Hattie because they removed the vegetation, and has been slowly enlarging more ever since.
They have rebuilt the seawall on the south side, the north will continue to erode until something is done there also.
That real estate has become valuable enough to necessitate it.

Is there a way to get off-topic posts to a more appropriate forum? (Including this one! :-)

you can get your exam done including bloodwork in Belize (the country) for about 75 and have the documentation in less than an hour. That applies to nationality and/or QRP
