By BBN Staff: At midnight on Wednesday the price of fuel saw another increase for the fifth time this year.

Super gasoline, which was previously $10.58 per gallon is now 11.04 per gallon.

Regular remains at $10.26 and Diesel at $9.35 per gallon.

According to our sources, the cost of regular will see another increase in the next two weeks.

What is causing the frequent increases? Are they likely to continue?

Also very high GOB taxes. When fuel prices went down in the rest of the world, GOB jacked up the taxes to keep prices level rather than let everyone benefit from the lower prices.

Has Belizean oil production dried up altogether? At one time, it was estimated that national production would be sufficient to meet national needs, though it was going to have to be shipped out for refining. What happened?

Too bad. Well, at least the reef wasn't sacrificed for a few "dribs and drabs" of oil.

I will bet dollars to donuts once the money generated to GOB from the land based they will allow the sea exploration no matter what anyone says. Wait and see

Damn Dave, you are on quite the roll. I'm very afraid you are right in this opinion too. It will be incredibly "penny wise and pound foolish" if they do, but money talks and there is plenty of "talking money" circulating around the oil industry. In a world where the smart developed and developing countries (like China and all of Europe) are working hard to move away from fossil fuels, sacrificing Belize's World Heritage Site barrier reef for a few thousand barrels of oil would be a bad, shortsighted decision indeed. Bad and shortsighted, yes, but surprising, no.
