We come down to Maya Beach area once a year and the internet situation has always been a problem. We use a 3G BTL router for the house and it works OK, but just slightly better than dial up. Last year when we were down we saw a guy splicing fiber optic cable and I stopped to ask him what was going on. He said that soon you would be able to get high speed internet in the Maya Beach area, that the fiber optic upgrade would soon be complete (we watched it over the course of two weeks and decent progress was being made every day). Does anyone know anything about this? We would love to have high speed internet at the house when we visit to make my work a little easier.
I usually have to do online work and process orders even while on vacation since I am a small business and I don't have anyone who can do what I do working for me. A lot of my time is spend waiting for web pages to load (welcome back to the late 1990s).
The other option would be to upgrade our router to 4G. Every year for the past 5 years BTL has been promising that 4G will be available "soon". I just read an article that it is supposed to be rolled out in December. We are coming down the end of January. Do you think it will actually be available on time?
Any information would be appreciated.
