Currently no reports of shootings have happened in the Cancun Hotel Zone. However, there are reports that access to the Hotel Zone may be controlled by authorities as a security precaution.
A friend who lives in Mexico sent me this when I mentioned I was thinking of the fly-to-Cancun-bus-to-Corozal method of getting to Belize this time. She was concerned, especially about being on the highway. Around the same time, there was a nightclub shooting in Playa Del Carmen.nightclub shooting
None of this seems particularly tied to the nonsense in Washington these days, but my friend, who runs a social-service NGO in Mexico, is seeing an expansion of the organized crime problem into areas that were formerly free of it. That's probably worth being concerned about.
