I am building a beachfront house in Sittee Point, Hopkins which will be done by November 1st. The upstairs will be available for weekly or longer rental when I am not there. I am looking for a person(s) to rent at a reduced price, the lower 1 bedroom 1 bath unit in exchange for being there for security and to "caretake" for renters upstairs. I'm estimating about 20 hours a month of work at the peak. It seems ideal for a writer as I want the person to be there, especially at night, virtually all the time. Please PM me with questions - only serious inquiries please.

Rockstar is right.

Most people who offer caretaking positions to Belizeans give free room plus money compensation.

I hope no one is stupid enough to fall for this one. You couldn't get a Belizean to fall for it, probably why it is being offered here.

Really wierd...I have a similar situation here in Galveston in which I rent the downstairs of a house to a couple who take care of the upper main house. They help with vacation rentals, clean, do light maintenance, yard work and CARETAKE. Any real difference???

I knock off a little, but...THEY PAY ME RENT!!! They are happy. Am I supposed to be ashamed? Oh sure...I know the score in Belize. Being caretaker for a gringo is a great gig. Almost everybody wants to be one. I've heard of big family fights breaking out over caretaker jobs.

If Dean can work a deal that makes him and his renter happy, that's his business. Dean...just use the word renter...at least on this bozo forum.

see that castle over there on the left tomtom, they are always looking for caretakers , you live there , cant leave like dean wants and you work one day a week for the priveledge .lol

I imagine there could be some that would like to because it is a castle , just like dean, because it is in belize and a lot of people want to go there. I believe though that long term never works, because owning more than one house makes a person think more of himself than others.. OHH i just described you didn§t i tomtom.

We offer our caretaker and his family a house, the use of a van, plus some income for taking take of our little place. We are by no means rich, but we do not take advantage of our Belizean caretakers either. We have total trust in our caretaker. He is a licensed driver. We keep the plates current on the van and we pay the insurance. He also works at another job just to provide for his family.

Actually hummingbird , i do not want to alienate Dean .

He came to belize , bought ,built and now is ready for his next step , whatever that is.
I do want him to participate in the Belize economy and up to now he has. Because of just buying and building.

Loc: Maya Beach,
the property we manage has a caretaker living there. he recieves a monthly salary for a set amount of chores and is paid hourly beyond that, plus social security. he works other jobs during the day and spends nights on site. his little house is tiny by some standards, but he is content. fresh water, stove, nice fridge, fans, cable t.v.{he pays for that}.
we feel it is a small expense to have him there and keeping things in order, very well i might add!

If I'm not mistaken, I think according to laws you have to pay your caretaker like any employee. Bartering as such is not accepted by the Labour Dept, Social Security, etc. Look into it, I could be wrong or have out dated info.
